Rent VS. Sell Calculator
Should You Rent Out or Sell Your Property?
Instructions
Use the calculator on the left to compare the financial benefits of renting versus selling your home. Simply enter your property and financial information to receive an estimate of your potential returns under each scenario.
Note: The "Years to Hold" field lets you estimate how long you plan to keep the property before selling. This is an important input because it determines the projected sale year and automatically factors in the associated selling costs for that year. These "Other Costs" may include real estate commissions, capital gains taxes, depreciation recapture, and other closing expenses. As a result, you may notice a significant increase in expenses during the projected year of sale.
